Various India related organizations as well as grass-root groups such as Mithila Museum, India Cultural Exchange Center and Indo-Japan Student Union played an active part in this event. The endeavor of these organizations and people made 'Namaste India' the biggest and much sought after event in Japan. The theme for 'Namaste India 2006' was "The COLOURS OF INDIA" - showcasing the splendor and grandeur of India.
Today the event has gained mammoth proportions with immense support from various bodies. The contents of the festival have become more substantial, offering visitors a diversified view of traditional and contemporary Indian Culture.
The Governments of India and Japan, has agreed to mark the year 2007 as "India Year in Japan" and various cultural events will be organized in both countries to commemorate the growing friendship. 'Namaste India' will play a key role in this initiative and 'Namaste India 2006' had been taken as the pre-cursor to the planned "India Year in Japan 2007".
